I highly recommend:

this site The Pioneer Woman. Full of laughter, tears, life lessons and yet more laughter!! Not to mention recipes galore, photography lessons and tips on homeschooling. I've been a fan of hers for a few years now...and never can get enough.
For those of you who love to read I also recommend this portion of her website: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels. Great fun love story...about the relationship with a cowboy that started it all =). Enjoy and leave me a few comments letting me know what you think!!

Mmmmm

Bread and Butter pickles.....I just puckered at the thought and grabbed the jar out of the fridge...and that's all I'm going to say about that!!

The countdown...

This is a sight that will greet you when you walk into our living room.

You may not be able to tell what it is...but it's there nontheless. Hanging like it's been there forever...although it hasn't been. But we are counting the days....it's gotta fall sometime...
You see it all happened two weeks, plus one day ago. Count that...15 days ago; I had my niece MA here and C's good buddy N. They were busy playing, goofing off as only two 6 year olds and one 10 year old can when C decided to throw his 'sticky hand' up on the ceiling. They had been playing at this off and on while they were here, but this time the darn thing stuck and it wasn't falling anytime soon...as you can tell.
Bit by bit it slowly is working it's way to it's gravitational destination (i.e. the floor). And this is where it's at now:

This thing is literally hanging by a thread. Not sure how it's still there, but I do think I'll be kinda bummed when it does fall.

Wow, starting a business......

is hard work! Yet I know that this will work out and be so rewarding. Nothing is written in stone, yet, but I will be obtaining a business license for my photography work. And if all goes as planned a friend will be partnering with me in this endeavor! We are both so excited!!

A few weeks ago I did a shoot with some western props. It was fun and good experience I think, it also drew in a few potential clients for purchasing said photos. It also may have generated clients for future photo shoots. Ahhh, it's all happening so fast!!

Needless to say I don't want any of this to turn into grudge work for me, so I'm going to try and take it easy, go with the flow and just enjoy it all. There is so much to learn so I'm hitting the books! Ahhhh....life - a work in progress!!!!

Wow, you'd think with all this time one my hands...

I'd be better about blogging. Fact is I'm not. Hoping to change that. Busy fall and winter and heading in to spring. At least it feels like we are, which will throw all of us off track. Bright warm sunshine is teasing us again this week and I think most of us are loving it!!

C's just getting over another bout of bronchial pneumonia, also known as walking pnuemonia. Can't stand that this has happened to him twice this year...but there you have it.

Anxious for the better weather to get here so I can go out and take more photos. I've been spending some spare time working on creating greeting cards. It's very fun and so far I have one lady who I make them for upon request, but since I've had to raise the price I'm not sure she'll still be interested. Here's hoping.

C creates cards with me sometimes, really seems to enjoy it too. He's got an artistic side, but says now that he doesn't like to draw. I tell ya, dealing with the ups and downs in attitude of a 6 year old are very trying at times. Thank goodness we have a boy and not a girl, not sure I could deal with the monthly fluctuations in mood.

So, I'm off to cook dinner. Elk steak, steamed broccoli and a salad. Lots of yummy veggies for us, healthy life here we come!!

Fall is here!

So excited! Fall is here, the rains have poured (literally) and the air smells completely refreshed. I waited outside this afternoon for C to get off the bus, yes he's in school AND riding a bus, and the breeze picked up and it was sooo cold but crisp. Absolutely wonderful!

I get pretty busy in the fall. I love the age old tradition of preserving foods. Don't know how or why that particular bug bit me but it has and it is fun. My mother in law and I put up 39 pints of salsa in a day, with help from my father in law and my mom, since it was so well received last year. We had fun but boy did my back scream at me that evening. I've made my regular freezer jams and canned a few syrups....really proud of how the Huckleberry Syrup turned out, and put up 48 pint jars of Bartlett pears, C's favorite.

I've been challenged by a few new things to can this year, it was my first time putting up 17 pints and 4 quarts of chopped tomatoes and then approx 14 - 1/2 pints of zucchini relish (half made with jalapenos). I truly enjoyed canning that with my mom! Her and dad used to make it with some friends of the familys when I was a kid...and boy did I remember that smell when we cooked it up before putting it in jars!! Yum yum. (I don't remember liking it as a child and the phrase "more for me" from my mother rings in my ears at the moment). But I like it now and tonight I'm busting out more relish...although this time it's going to be regular sweet pickle relish, which is also new for me. Making cranberry sauce and canning it up is next, gotta use the crans that are in the freezer, then possibly head to Long Beach for more.

All in all this has been a busy month! The canning, having my car repaired after someone backed into it and C starting Kindergarten. Then this week he also lost his second tooth and my chickens started laying eggs. It's been busy but oh so fun and adventurous!

I'm enjoying my life....it all has it's tribulations and there are times when devastating news reaches us....we pray...we hope, and keep those loved ones in our prayers. We think positive thoughts for a wonderfully positive outcome!! There is always hope...and love prevails.

Ahhhh...some days to play catch-up

It's been crazy busy around here. AND terribly hot. The high today was suppose to reach 105 and the last time I checked our thermometer it read 103!! Tomorrow is to be the same.
We didn't go camping last weekend like we'd planned....was going to be in the 90's and that is just too hot. So B (my hubby), C and I took a trip over to Multnomah Falls.

BTW I have no idea who that girl is in the photo with my guys, but I should've taken a cue from her....then maybe I'd be in some of the pictures that were taken that day.

B and C are TROOPERS I tell ya! They made it to the top. There was no way our boy was turning around and coming back down until he made it all the way. I gave up on switchback 3 of 11. I should have kept going....oh well. I had a spectacular time just people watching while the guys were hicking.

I finally took the plunge and got some chickens!! Four beautiful Black Sexlinks. All girls....they're not laying eggs yet and are called pullets until they are a year old, then they will be hens. No way could I get a rooster...he'd be dinner the evening of the first morning he crowed and woke B up...so it's better to not test those waters just yet.

And this is the wonderful new hen house my dad and B built (hey I pounded A LOT of nails myself!!)

They are moved in now and loving there new spot. It took the place of their temporary home...the dog house:

The heat is getting to them though...my son thought it very interesting that they pant like a dog to try to cool down. Those chickens adore him! He would spend uncalculated amounts of time talking to them and feeding them leaves when they were in the temp pen. Now they have a lot of greens to eat, but when they hear him...they are beaks to the fence, waiting for their treats from the little 5 yr old boy.
